Maintaining aseptic environment across the lab especially laminar room is of prime importance. Once the culture is opened it is prone to bacterial and fungal contaminations

We implement following steps in our lab helping us to keep the contamination below 5% :

✅Sterilization of Glassware- The glassware can be sterilized in a hot air oven at 160-1800C for 2-4 hours.

✅Sterilization of instruments- The metallic instruments are incinerated by dipping them in 75% ethanol followed by flaming and cooling.

✅Sterilization of nutrient media- The culture media are transferred into glass container, plugged with cotton or sealed with plastic closures and sterilized by autoclaving at 15 psi (pounds per square inch) for 30 min. The autoclaving denatures the vitamins, plant extracts, amino acids and hormones therefore the solution of these compounds are sterilized by using Millipore filter paper with pore size of 0.2 micrometer(Mm) diameter.

✅Sterilization of plant materials- The surface of the plant material is made sterile by using disinfectants e.g. sodium hypochlorite, hydrogen peroxide, mercuric chloride, or ethanol. The transfer of sterile plant material on to the nutrient medium is done under the cabinet of laminar airflow.

✅Sterilization of Culture room and transfer area- the floor and walls of the culture room should be washed with detergent followed by 2% sodium hypochlorite or 95% ethanol. The sterilization can also be done by exposure to UV light. The cabinet of laminar air flow is sterilized by exposing to UV light for 30 min. and 95% ethanol 15 min. before starting the work.

Its not a very popular houseplant rather a plant collectors fancy.

More commonly used name of the species is drop tongue plant ( as the internet suggest ! ) But I am sure this plant will have many local names across different regions of the world

Why bottle trays in a commercial scale plant tissue culture lab is a must!

✅Easy to Transport:
Especially transferring of cultures from growth room to the inoculation room

✅Easy to handle bottles:
Ensure to keep the culture bottles with tray in the growth rack so that the whole batch can be picked up & moved

✅Easy to store -
Especially the dark room storage, PP trays are must to have
When the lab is overstocked with culture bottles & growth racks have limited space left, it’s a usual practice (but not the best practice to have) to stack culture bottles on the floor as a temporary arrangement (specially for banana cultures).

In short, autoclavable PP trays is a must investment for any commercial scale plant tissue culture lab.

Not only it avoid any bottle breakages due to handling error but it’s also time efficient and useful.

We just bought 1000+ trays recently…
